Historical facts

Magnitogorsk is a city with an interesting history. Therefore, it is necessary to tell some historical facts.

  • The city was founded in 1743 as part of the Orenburg line of forts built during the reign of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna.
  • During the Pugachev Uprising in 1774, the Magnitnaya fortress was captured by rioters. Only on the second attempt did the Pugachevites manage to capture the fortress. In retaliation for the resistance, many residents of Magnitnaya were executed.
  • In 1865, the defensive line was disbanded, and Magnitnaya turned into a Cossack village. Tsars visited it twice: in 1837, Tsarevich Alexander Nikolaevich (the future Alexander II) visited it together with the poet V. A. Zhukovsky, and in 1891 Nicholai II visited it.
  • Magnitogorsk's date of birth is considered to be June 30, 1929, when the first train arrived at Magnitogorsk.
  • The role of the city in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 is significant: the armor of every second tank, every third shell were made of Magnitogorsk steel, smelted at the combine, the raw materials for which were taken from the Magnetic Mountain.
